A Statement from The Cedar on President Trump’s Executive Order

Dear Community Members,

The Cedar Cultural Center denounces President Trump’s Executive Order (EO) that bans travel to the U.S. from several Muslim-majority countries, including Somalia. As an anchor organization located in the heart of the largest Somali diaspora in North America, this EO has a devastating effect on our community and members of our staff. We stand united with our community members in opposition to this EO.

Artists from these banned countries are important to our community and to The Cedar’s mission to promote intercultural appreciation and understanding. Artists provide invaluable perspective: Their work builds bridges between Minnesota and the rest of the world and connects communities different in culture, race, and religion, making us collectively stronger.

We are committed to supporting our community and actively promoting equity, justice, and artistic expression. In the coming weeks, we will communicate our action plan in support of this commitment.

Sincerely,

The Board and Staff of The Cedar Cultural Center
