Mickey Murray
Sixties' soul singer Mickey Murray had a million selling single in about ’67 with the song Shout Bamalama on an small label called SSS International, but has sadly been largely absent from the performing music scene in the subsequent decades.
Mickey toured with Wilson Pickett and opened regularly for Aretha Franklin during the mid to late 60’s. Being from the same town as James Brown, he also spent a lot of time with James. In fact, when King Records realized they were going to lose James from the label, they quickly tried to figure out who they could replace him with. Lacking the capital to sign another artist of James’ stature, King Records opted to instead build a new James Brown. Their solution…sign Mickey Murray.
Mickey went on to record an LP called People Are Together in late ’68 for release on King’s “Federal Records” imprint. However, release was exceedingly limited; hence this latest re-release project by Secret Stash Records.
