Scattered
Last Monday, I witnessed a performance wherein an artist was simultaneously a child and an old man with deep dimples and wrinkles, gleeful and mournful.
He winced and grinned as though the music was pouring through him whether he wished it to or not.
All of this, right here at The Cedar.
If you're not familiar with Joe's music (as I barely was a couple weeks ago) the video above will give you some of an idea. Main Figurehead also posted a nice clip in his last post Fiction As Fact.

Listened to a new Andrew Bird track yesterday over at MFR. Long. Instrumental. But the track still has that quirky, mysterious charm that has become ubiquitous with Mr. Bird. You can listen over at MFR.

Last night was supposed to be my second drum lesson. Why, you might ask, am I taking drum lessons? Well, as a young angel I expressed my desire to learn that instrument. My father laughed at me. He told me I had "the wrong personality type" for that instrument. He refused to facilitate the idea. I decided then that at some point in my life I needed to prove him wrong. The lesson fell through this time. More updates to come.

Excited for Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan this weekend. Hope some of you will be there too.

Defined.
This is a new feature I'd like to start featuring regularly on this blog. I recently obtained a pocket manual of musical terms, and I'd like to share some of them with you.
Wolf: 2. In bow instruments, an imperfect or jarring vibration caused by sounding particular tone or tones.
Til next time,

Joe Pug
The day before his senior year as a playwright student at the University of North Carolina, Joe Pug sat down for a cup of coffee and had the clearest thought of his life: I am profoundly unhappy here. Then came the second clearest.
