Festival Season
Lately most of my time has been spent thinking about, talking about, and helping plan outdoor music events. Not only do the announcements seem to appear daily for new festivals in the Twin Cities, but nearly all of them showcase the incredible number of talented local musicians we have.
I am happy to say that the West Bank Music Festival to be held on Saturday, August 20 is no different.
The festival will include an outdoor stage with music from 5 p.m. til 10 p.m, in addition to live music in West Bank bars and clubs starting at 10 p.m. You will have to wait and see who is playing the late night slots, but here is the outdoor stage schedule for your perusal.
5 p.m. Surprise guest!
6 p.m. Gramma's Boyfriend
7 p.m. The Goondas
8 p.m. Retribution Gospel Choir
9 p.m. Dessa
Main Figurehead and I are very happy to have a complete list for you, and I hope we see all of you on the West Bank on August 20!
'til next time,
AoR
Dessa
Dessa is an emcee in the Minneapolis Doomtree Crew. They are ten of the rowdiest best friends ever to decide to start a rap label. Check them out at www.doomtree.net - dot net 'cause somebody already had the dot com. Dessa is also a writer--which is necessarily less rowdy, but can involve just as many rum and cokes. She writes funny/sad true stories, sends them to magazines, and often as not she receives funny/sad rejection slips. But she's on the come up.
Retribution Gospel Choir
Retribution Gospel Choir is a rock trio founded in 2007. The group features Alan Sparhawk on guitar and vocals, Steve Garrington on bass and Eric Pollard on drums and vocals. Alan also fronts the band Low with his wife, Mimi Parker, and Steve also plays bass in Low.
RGC has released a few limited-edition live tour EPs and a self-titled full-length album. They have toured throughout the US, UK and Spain. RGC's most recent album, appropriately titled 2, was released January 26, 2010 on Sub Pop Records.
