Mount Eerie at The Cedar?
There was a time in my life when I didn't sleep very much. Let's call it my senior year of college, though it was really more than that. I worked late and biked to an 8 a.m. class twice a week. Even during the hours that were available for sleep, it just wasn't happening.
I only ever found one thing that could really help me sleep: Listening to Mount Eerie's Lost Wisdom on headphones. I often awoke with one earbud in and the other's cord wrapped around my neck, not sure when I fell asleep.
The album is sad, and yet comforting in a way. The vocal harmony is really lovely (have I blogged about how much I love Julie Doiron yet? Oh. Apparently I have. Five times. ). I don't know what all to say about it other than it really speaks to me, clears my mind, and leads me to dream.
So it is my great pleasure to share with you a project that we at The Cedar and Phil Elverum of Mount Eerie are collaborating on (with our friends at Modern Radio and Landland). You can find it here.
Cedar Seeder is a little bit like Kickstarter. Here's how it works:
Music and art patrons like you pledge money to support specific projects. If we are able to raise the required amount by the due date, we charge your credit card, the project happens, and you receive the gifts for your level of giving. If we don't raise the required amount by the due date, the project doesn't happen and your credit card is not charged. You can pledge by clicking "support this project" and logging in using your facebook account or by creating a username and password. Cedar Seeder is a safe and secure site.
In other words, if were are able to collect $1,200 in pledges by Monday, August 22nd. Mount Eerie will perform at The Cedar on Monday, September 5.
From my understanding, Elverum is fairly adamant about not playing in bars. I admire this about him, and I will admit that it is one of the reasons I have wanted him to play at The Cedar for so long. Can't you just imagine how good it would sound?
As of this post, we are about 1/3 of the way to meeting our goal. We have 16 days left.
Here's hoping we can make this show happen (and I really think we can),

Andrew Broder
Most notable for his work in the bands Cloak Ox and Fog, Andrew Broder has also worked with Yoni Wolf of Why?, in the one-off side project, Hymie's Basement. Andrew Broder's solo material consists of two EP's, "Modern Hits" and "More Modern Hits", both of which recontextualize hip hop, by setting the vocals to varying styles of Broder's making. Broder has also released material under his own name in the form of a collaboration with George Cartwright, called "Soup". More recently, he has performed as part of Crook and Flail, producing a soundtrack to graphic novel guru Alan Moore's Unearthing.
Mount Eerie
Phil Elverum is Mount Eerie. The 33 year-old multi-instrumentalist has played in other bands, and worked as a producer, but remains best known for this solo project, which began under the name the Microphones in 1997. In 2003, he renamed the project Mount Eerie (and added an “e” to his last name, Elvrum) after returning from a trip to Norway, where he lived alone in a remote cabin for a winter. “Mount Eerie” specifically refers to the mountain on Fidalgo Island, an island an hour and change north of Seattle where you’ll also find Elverum’s lifelong Anacortes, Washington hometown.
