"Dazzling in its velocity and virtuosity...defiantly ecstatic music." (David Fricke, Rolling Stone)

"Joyous, rambunctious and full of fun" (Amazon.com reviewer)

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are a group of young African-American stringband musicians that have come to together to play the rich tradition of fiddle and banjo music in Carolinas’ piedmont. Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson both hail from the green hills of the North Carolina Piedmont while Dom Flemons is native to sunny Arizona. Although the members of the group have diverse musical backgrounds, they draw their musical heritage from the foothills of the North and South Carolina, with help from Joe Thompson, said to be the last black traditional string band player, of Mebane, NC. They strive to carry on the long standing traditional music of the black and white communities.

2007 has been the breakthrough year for Carolina Chocolate Drops: they've been on NPR, appeared on A Praire Home Companion, and now Dona Got A Ramblin' Mind has been named number 49 on Paste Magazine's Top 100 Albums of 2007!

THIS BAND IS AMAZING!

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are truly astonishing. I saw them several times at MerleFest (NC) in April 2007, and was converted into a permanent fan. In one of their shows, the Drops played before tens of thousands of people at the 'main stage' area. They had those tens of thousands of people on their feet and cheering. That's quite a feat in any circumstance, let alone for a relatively new band with three acoustic instruments.

Go. See. Listen. You will be rewarded.

Carolina Chocolate Drops

It's true - the CCD's are a great band with a great mission. Even if you don't give a hoot about music education you should still go see this band and get yourself a great work out - you'll be dancing all night!
