Cedar Family presents Harry and the Potters with Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Imagine if Harry Potter quit the quidditch team and started a punk rock band. Take that one step further and imagine that he stole a time-turner and decided to start that band with himself from a different point in time. Harry and the Potters is brothers Paul and Joe DeGeorge. They started this band in 2002 when Joe was 15 and Paul was 23.

Koo Koo Kanga Roo is all about dancing, yelling, and bringing the party. Bryan and Neil wont be satisfied until the entire room has joined in on the fun. Think the Beastie Boys multiplied by Sesame Street plus the driving dance beats of Daft Punk and the live show antics of the Flaming Lips! Oh…and costumes are encouraged!

Justin Roberts is truly one of the "all-stars" of the indie family music scene.  Justin and his trusty band The Not Ready for Naptime Players dish out unexpectedly intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents. No stranger to The Cedar, Justin's shows always draw a large and enthusiastic crowd, with many youngsters choosing to get up close in front in the specially cleared dancing area/mini-moshpit. Great fun!

Cedar Family presents Laura Veirs and The Tumble Bees

Indie singer-songwriter Laura Veirs presents a morning romp through the delightful songs of her new album for children, Tumble Bee.

Children like Laura Veirs.  Nothing strange about that – they also like furry animals.  So there is something unsurprising aboout her creation of an entire album dedicated to the ears of the tinies:  13 songs for the young, some written by Jimmie Rodgers, Woody Guthrie, Harry Belafonte, all arranged by longstanding collaborator Tucker Martine to draw on the most innocent timbres of the Americand folk tradition.  It is, almost inevitably, charming.  – The Independent

Trailer Trash: Trashy Little Xmas Family Matinee

It's that time again, folks. Have yourself a honky tonky little Xmas with your favorite roots band's not-so-traditional Xmas show, good for the whole family, and a venerable institution on the local holiday music calendar.

Trailer Trash has drawn enthusiastic crowds at Lee's Liquor Lounge in downtown Minneapolis for almost twenty years. Frontman Nate Dungan defines the band's style simply as "honky tonk music," spanning the gamut from country and swing to blues and rock. Having paid their dues on the local scene, and confident in their ability to entertain any crowd, they enjoy turning on new generations to the classic sound of American roots music. As their slogan proclaims,  "Playing American roots music the way it used to be, before your favorite songs became commercials."

The Cedar is now fully air-conditioned for your year-round comfort!
