Mount Eerie with Nicholas Krgovich and Andrew Broder

Mount Eerie

The Cedar has historically been closed on Labor Day. This year, we want to open our doors to present Mount Eerie (aka Phil Elverum aka The Microphones) with Nicholas Krgovich and Andrew Broder. This is a special opportunity since Elverum hasn't played in the Twin Cities for two years, and we've never before hosted him at The Cedar.

James Vincent McMorrow with Marissa Nadler

James Vincent McMorrow

“A captivating debut… An arresting journey from emotional trials to aural pleasure.” – Uncut ★★★★

“Gorgeous…a similar beauty to James Blake’s current hit.” – nme

“There’s a world of mystery in the mesmerizing voice of this Irishman...” – People Magazine

Irish indie singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow earned many accolades for his debut album Early in the Morning, and several of the songs from the album went on to be featured on hit TV series Chuck, Parenthood, and Grey’s Anatomy. After a handful of solo dates earlier this year, James is now making his first headlining tour of the USA, this time with a five-piece backing band. “Playing on my own right now is beautiful because it allows me to connect on a very primitive level,” says James, “but I look forward to being surrounded with friends on stage to share this with me.”

Karan Casey and John Doyle

Breathtaking Irish vocalist Karan Casey and guitar virtuoso John Doyle rose to fame through being founding members of traditional supergroup Solas. Since leaving Solas, each has carved out a unique and acclaimed place in contemporary Irish and folk music, yet they both felt a yearning that has pulled them back to work together once more, this time as a duo. The result is Exile's Return (Compass Records), a luminous new album of Irish, Scottish and English folk songs, and a limited number of live appearances. The renewed collaboration has generated "a feeling of coming home," says Karan. "John in his guitar playing really does catch me, almost like he knows what I'm thinking." John says, "Karan's soul is in the music.  We fit together, like hand in glove."

Sharon Van Etten with Little Scream and StarDweller

Sharon Van Etten, photo by Dusdin Condren

Intimate and hushed, Sharon Van Etten's folk tunes tend to quiet any room she plays them in. These are the type of nuanced songs that can render a crowd breathless.

Van Etten was introduced to an eclectic blend of folk and rock 'n' roll while growing up in Nashville. She worked her way to Brooklyn, and after a national tour in support of her debut album, Because I Was In Love, she turned to Epic, a seven-song LP that was one of NPR Music's favorite records of 2010. Read more »
