Sam Amidon with Holly Newsom
Sam Amidon sees no difference between a 19th-century folk ballad and a 21st-century avant-garde instrumental suite. In bridging the very old and the very new... he has managed to meld the rural and the urban, the organic and the synthetic, the oral tradition and the written score… (Stephen Deusner, Pitchfork Jan 2010)
Trashcan Sinatras (acoustic) with The Twilight Hours

The Cedar finally gets to invite in from the cold Canadian singer-songwriter great Ron Sexsmith for an intimate show in support of his brand new album Long Player Late Bloomer (out Mar 1, 2011, Warner). Hinting at a somewhat different direction for Sexsmith, the new album was produced by Metallica producer Bob Rock.

Pierre Bensusan
Pierre’s music gives me the shakes. No other guitarist shares his strange gifts of sophistication, accessibility and downright joy. Even at its most complex, Pierre’s music only needs ears to be enjoyed. (Leo Kottke)
Listening to Pierre Bensusan is rejuvenating. Beside his extraordinary touch and tone, the notes and melody appeal directly to the tender side of our human nature. (Steve Vai)
An evening with the luminous French-Algerian guitarist, singer and composer Pierre Bensusan, touring in support of his 2010 release Vividly. Vividly strives to portray pleasure, joy, and jubilation poured into one second, what Jack Kerouac called the golden eternity. This is a space which eminently suits the Bensusan sound. Live in concert, you will be struck by Pierre's masterful technique, demonstrating virtuosity and feeling, yet never overpowering the pure pleasure he communicates through his playing.

Vishten
The group Vishten was formed in Prince Edward Island, in the Canadian Maritimes, at the beginning of the new millennium by traditional Acadian musicians/dancers Pastelle and Emmanuelle LeBlanc.
Vishten’s music is a hardy mixture of the French, Irish and Scottish styles of Eastern Canada, with fiery fiddling and powerful step dancing taking front and center. Their stage show re-creates the joy and energy of the “kitchen party,” the informal community gatherings where all are welcomed to sing, play and dance. The rhythms and melodies are inseparable, and reflect a special joie de vivre unique to the Acadian culture, with flying fingers, tapping feet, and an unabashed sense of celebration.
Battlefield Band (7pm)
"What the internationally renowned Irish band, the Chieftains, has done for traditional Irish music, Battlefield Band is doing for the music of Scotland ..." Jeff Nesbit, BILLBOARD
After more than four decades performing their inspired music sparked by the rich musical heritage and the strength of the modern Scottish cultural scene, the Battlefield Band (and The Cedar) says farewell to founding member Alan Reid, who has decided to leave the band at the end of 2010. Alan will be focusing in future on his duo project. Don't miss this end of an era performance, to cap off a phenomenal stint that began unobtrusively in Glasgow in 1969, and took the Batties to the world's top stages, and to give a rousing welcome to new member, stunning multi-instrumentalist Ewen Henderson!
Jóhann Jóhannsson with Aquarelle
Jóhann Jóhannsson has been called by critics “Iceland's foremost genre-crossing multi-instrumentalist” (Irish Times), “one of the bright lights in the already talent rich Icelandic underground music scene” (Aquarius Records), “the most compelling composer working today”, and “An important figure in Iceland’s new music scene at the turn of the millennium”. (All Music Guide). Read more »
An evening with Eliza Gilkyson
Cedar fave returns in an early, one-set show! Austin-based Eliza Gilkyson is a politically minded, poetically gifted singer-songwriter, who has become one of the most respected musicians in roots, folk and Americana circles. Since 2000, she has released a string of superb recordings on Red House Records, with her most recent release Beautiful World described by All Music Guide as her "masterpiece". Read more »
