Dean Magraw and Marcus Wise CD Release

Guitar wizard Dean Magraw and world-renowned tabla player Marcus Wise reunite to release How the Light Gets In, their first duo album on Red House Records since their 1985 album Wise Magraw (the third released on the label). Taken from Leonard Cohen’s song “Anthem,” the title How the Light Gets In refers to the imperfection of things and that it is through the cracks that we are able to see light and beauty. What transpires on this record is a mesmerizing musical synergy that captures two musicians letting the silences ring out as they listen to each other and create music in the moment. Read more »
Bill Frisell and Vinicius Cantuária
An evening in the esteemed company of Brazilian singer/guitarist/percussionist Vinicius Cantuária, and American guitarist Bill Frisell. The two men have a long history of working together, with Bill guesting on Vinicius' albums Tucuma (1999), Vinicius (2001), Horse and Fish (2004), Samba Carioca (2010) and Vinicius returning the favor on Bill's 2003 album The Intercontinentals. The duo have a new album in the works, due out in 2011. Expect improvisations that dive into a river of musical possibilities, and take you on a journey throughout the Americas and beyond.

An Evening with Jake Shimabukuro
A second chance to hear the warm sounds of Hawiian ukulele maestro Jake Shimabukuro, this time as he stretches out over two sets. As anyone who was at Jake's sold out May show at The Cedar can attest, Jake is a phenomenally gifted ukulele player, capable of playing not only at blistering speed, and also with astonishing sensitivity for the music. His repertoire includes pop standards, classical works, film music, and originals--truly something for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss it.

Yuval Ron Ensemble
The Yuval Ron Ensemble endeavors to alleviate national, racial, religious and cultural divides by uniting the music and dance of the opposing people of the Middle East into a unique mystical, spiritual and inspiring musical celebration. The Ensemble includes Jewish and Arabic musicians as well as Christian Armenian artists who have been actively involved in creating musical bridges between people of various faiths and ethnic groups worldwide. Formed in 1999, and led by Oscar winning composer Yuval Ron (music for "West Bank Story"), the Ensemble was featured to perform at the International Sacred Music Festival of Fez Morocco, and was chosen to headline the benefit concert for "Seeds of Compassion" - the Dalai Lama's conference - in Seattle, WA. In 2002 and 2005, the ensemble was featured at the World Festival of Sacred Music in Los Angeles and was honored to be the first American-based Middle Eastern Ensemble to perform at an International Peace Festival '05 in South Korea.

The Cedar welcomes back a long-time favorite: Peter Ostroushko, who has come to be regarded as one of the finest mandolin and fiddle players in acoustic music. His tours have taken him to the stages of clubs, performing arts centers, music festivals and theaters across North America and Europe, and he has earned an international reputation as a versatile and dazzling master of instrumentation and composition. A rare opportunity to catch Doc Watson as he returns to The Cedar after a five year absence! Recipient of the National Medal of Arts, National Heritage Fellowship and seven Grammy Awards (including recent Lifetime Achievement), Doc Watson is a legendary performer who blends his traditional Appalachian musical roots with bluegrass, country, gospel and blues to create a unique style and an expansive repertoire. Doc is widely considered to be a national treasure and has inspired generations of guitar players and enthusiasts.
