Joe Ely with Paul Metsa

Joe Ely

Hailing from Amarillo, TX, singer, songwriter and guitarist Joe Ely has been making records since 1972. His rebellious neo-traditional country music crosses multiple genres including heartfelt honky-tonk, Texas country, Tex-Mex and rock and roll. He knows his craft well and is considered one of the most consistently rewarding artists to come out of the Texas scene. Call him what you want – a wandering minstrel, gypsy cowboy, visionary song poet, or houserocker on fire – whatever he is, Ely has achieved cult status and covered a lot of ground in his time.

He’s performed with Bruce Springsteen, The Chieftains, Lyle Lovett, John Mellencamp, Los Lobos and John Hiatt. He even sang on The Clash’s hit Should I Stay or Should I Go.

SOLD OUT: Sonny Landreth with Charlie Parr

Sonny Landreth

According to Eric Clapton, Sonny Landreth is ‘probably the most underestimated musician on the planet.’ Sonny Landreth is a guitarist’s guitarist — a wizard of the slide guitar. His music encompasses Mississippi Delta blues, zydeco, and Southern rock. But he also creates sounds that are all his own — sounds he calls the music behind the glass.

A Louisiana native and slide-guitar master, Landreth came to prominence playing in the band of Zydeco king Clifton Chenier. As an in-demand session  and touring player, Landreth has contributed to the work of artists including John Hiatt, Dr. John, Maria Muldaur, Marshall Crenshaw, Government Mule, Little Feat and Beausoleil, among others.

Sea Wolf with Hey Marseilles

Sea Wolf, photo by Mia Kirby

Sea Wolf, touring behind the new album Old World Romance (Dangerbird Records, Sept 11 2012). The songs are stripped back and lean, simply melodic and brightly propulsive. According to founder and leading man, Alex Brown Church, “This record is about a lot of things, but some of it is about coming home after being away and facing the realities of one’s life, and life in general. Things you may have run away from, and things you are ready to embrace. Reconnecting and growing up.”

Northwest folk pop outfit Hey Marseilles opens.

The Deadly Gentlemen

The Deadly Gentlemen

An experimental spoken word bluegrass band turned epic folk and grasscore band. Instead of having a lead singer, the group uses a nonstop orchestration of somewhat unconventional vocals. Expect a lot of three-part harmony singing, group shouting, really dense rhymes and an almost rap-like phrasing. The group features Greg Liszt (Crooked Still), Sam Grisman (son of David Grisman), Mike Barnett (David Grisman), Dominick Leslie (self proclaimed "child prodigy of the mandolin") and Stash Wyslouch (Eric Robertson and the Boston Boys, Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers).

Correo Aéreo

Correo Aéreo, photo by Michelle Bates

Musically, a Correo Aèreo performance is like stepping through a doorway into another time and place... Together, their vocal harmonies are locked in carnal embrace, though it's Abel's plaintive cry, sung with an expression that mixes pleasure and pain, that's positively bewitching. As the couple trade longing glances, their sensual yet buoyant music dances gaily about a gently percussive beat and uplifting melodies. It's hard not to lose yourself completely in the quiet passion of this subtly dramatic music...Correo Aèreo was conjuring up musical spells...(their) magic was too strong for me. I never had a chance. (Austin Chronicle)

Let Abel Rocha and Madeleine Sosin of Correo Aéreo whisk you away as they put their stamp on traditional music of Latin America, drawing especially upon that of Venezuela, Argentina and Mexico, and including some songs sung in the 2500 year old Zapotec Indian language. Read more »
