Join The Barley Jacks as they formally release their new CD The Lighthouse.  The Barley Jacks sing original vocals and play jaw–dropping instrumentals in a spirit of excitement and fun. They are masters of the fiddle, guitar, bass and drum who meld their divergent backgrounds of blues and bluegrass, classical and Celtic, R & B and bebop to inspire each other and create something entirely new.  Front-man and fiddler Brian Wicklund is joined by Joe Cruz–guitar, Kevin Rowe–bass, and Joel Arpin–percussion.  Their 2010 recording Either Side of Night has been warmly received by reviewers.

The Cedar welcomes back multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and who knows what else) and singer Tim O'Brien! Tim's latest solo release is Chicken & Egg, put out on his own Howdy Skies imprint. Mixing originals, collaborations, and a handful of outside compositions, Chicken & Egg is an illuminating, engaging, and ultimately life-affirming meditation on the art of living. “This stuff reflects what goes on in the life of someone my age,” O’Brien reflects. “I’m 56 years old. I’m not the young kid on the scene – and I’m happy about that. I’m at a strange point in my life: my kids are growing up, while my parents and teachers are passing on. There’s a lot happening – but it’s just life, and that’s what this album is about. There’s a little love song action here and there, but mostly it’s about living life.”

Piedmont blues guitarist and singer Mary Flower opens the evening.

The Cedar sure knows how to pick 'em--and so do the artists on tonight's smash bluegrass double bill: providing a living link to bluegrass founder Bill Monroe, the inimitable Peter Rowan has assembled an allstar cast in his aptly named Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, touring in support of their brand new release Legacy (Compass Records), recorded earlier this year with the help of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Del McCoury, and Ricky Skaggs. And in a more contemporary vein, the Boulder Acoustic Society take roots music in startling new directions.

The legendary Czech band Druha Trava returns to The Cedar! Famed on both sides of the Atlantic for its "Czechgrass" fusion of acoustic, bluegrass, folk and rock, Druha Trava will introduce Cedar fans to a new addition to its line-up -- award-winning bass player Tomas Liska, who took over in April from long-time DT bassist Petr Sury.

Liska, 31, is well known in the Czech and European jazz scene and also performs with other top artists such as Lenka Dusilova and David Doruska.

"He is a phenomenal musician and also brings a youthful style to the stage," said DT banjo player Lubos Malina.

Recipient of the National Medal of Arts, National Heritage Fellowship and seven Grammy Awards (including recent Lifetime Achievement), Doc Watson is a legendary performer who blends his traditional Appalachian musical roots with bluegrass, country, gospel and blues to create a unique style and an expansive repertoire.  Doc is widely considered to be a national treasure and has inspired generations of guitar players and enthusiasts.
