Karan Casey and John Doyle

Karan Casey and John Doyle

Breathtaking Irish vocalist Karan Casey and guitar virtuoso John Doyle rose to fame as founding members of traditional supergroup Solas. Since leaving Solas, each has successfully carved out a unique place in contemporary Irish and folk music, yet their deeply felt musical compatibility and kinship has pulled them back to work together once more, this time as a duo. The result is Exile's Return (Compass Records), a luminous new album of Irish, Scottish and English folk songs, and a limited number of live appearances. The renewed collaboration has generated "a feeling of coming home," says Karan. "John in his guitar playing really does catch me, almost like he knows what I'm thinking." John says, "Karan's soul is in the music.  We fit together, like hand in glove."

He is enormously popular across the rest of Spain and throughout Europe and Latin America, with a number one hit and with his records regularly attaining gold and platinum status.

He played on many of The Chieftains' CDs including Treasure Island, The Long Black Veil, the Grammy-winning Santiago (inspired by Galician music), Mexican project San Patricio, and their latest release, Voice of Ages.

Olov Johansson & Catriona McKay

Olov Johansson and Catriona McKay

Väsen's stunning nyckelharpa player Olov Johannson reaches across the North Sea to join forces with Scottish harpist Catriona McKay, exploring music traditional and new from Sweden and Scotland.

"...their instruments seem to liberate themselves from their original traditions and improvise a fine threaded, personal web of sound – a giving and taking where also the old melodies are given totally new dimensions. It might be a Scottish harp piece from the 18th century , or a polska after Gabriel Höök. Several of the tracks are composed by themselves. Johansson and McKay are both masterful instrumentalists, but it’s the way they listen to each other and play together that is the big reward, the ability to exchange solo-space and to vary the playing from the most ethereal and lyrical to the driving dance rhythms in the Foogy Set."
