An evening with Cherish the Ladies
Under the leadership of the dynamic and irrepressible Joanie Madden on flutes and whistles, Cherish The Ladies have grown from a one-time concert concept to an Irish traditional music sensation and are now amongst the most sought after of Irish-American groups in Celtic music.
With their unique blend of virtuosi instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements and stunning step dancing, this powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture and puts it forth in a gently humorous, and sublimely entertaining package.

Kaivama with Polka Chicks
Come prepared to be swept away by the spirited music of Finnish-American progressive acoustic folk duo Kaivama (Sara Pajunen, fiddle & vocals; Jonathan Rundman, guitar, harmonium & vocals), joined this evening by their good friends from Finland, the vivacious Polka Chicks (Kukka Lehto, fiddle/mandola and vocals; Teija Niku, accordion & vocals).
With sets from each duo, and some pieces performed jointly, the evening promises to be a superb showcase of vital Finnish folk music and original compositions, as interpreted by some of the best players on either side of the Atlantic. Music that is by turns joyous, primal, experimental, haunting, astonishingly beautiful, and time-honored; truly something for everyone to enjoy.
Presented as a seated show, but there'll be some room for dancing in the wings if those polkas carry you away!

April Verch Band
Experience April in March! The Cedar welcomes back sensational Canadian fiddler, singer, songwriter and stepdancer April Verch with her band, bringing their foot-stompin' rendition of classic Ottawa Valley and old time tunes and songs. The twang of the banjo and the driving Franco-Celtic pulse of the fiddle are as ingrained in April as snowbound winters and Saturday dances.

David Gerald Sutton: 416 Club Commissions
Electric String Quartet is not a typical instrumental band from the Twin Cities. They are a quartet with loopers and a massive array of effect pedals to sound like a rock orchestra. As a result of frontman David Gerald Sutton having received the 416 Club Commission Grant, they will be performing a live, recorded concert at the Cedar Cultural Center on Sunday, January 27th. They will be performing their most recent release, The Vertical Horizon, a concept album about Alzheimer’s.
In the last ten years, the number of patients with Alzheimer’s has increased dramatically. It is projected about 7.7 million people will have Alzheimer’s by 2030. Art and music are one of the few things shown to help slow down the effects of Alzheimer’s. ESQ wishes to use this experience and their record to bring awareness to audiences, and to promote understanding of what their loved ones and others with Alzheimer’s are going through.

The Cedar and First Avenue present Abigail Washburn with Kai Welch, and guest Rayna Gellert (at The Cedar)
The Cedar and First Avenue welcome back clawhammer banjo queen and singer Abigail Washburn with multi-instrumentalist Kai Welch. It takes more than deft fingerwork to bridge people and culture, but somehow Abigail finds a common ground in the music of Appalachia, Beijing and beyond, and succeeds in making the world a smaller, more intimate place.
It will be a reunion of sorts tonight too, as opening act Rayna Gellert has a long history of performing alongside Abigail Washburn in Uncle Earl. Rayna is a revered performer in the old time music community for her fine fiddling and songwriting. She has a new album due out in the fall.
