DATE CHANGE: Socalled with Carnage The Executioner
The Cedar welcomes one-of-a-kind klezmer rapper Socalled! Impossible to pigeonhole, and utterly irrepressible, Socalled has to be seen and heard to be believed. As Socalled (Josh Dolgin) explains, "Hip hop is all about representing who you are, your crew. I’m this little white Jewish dude living in the country. It doesn’t make sense for me to rap about guns, cars, and hos. I’m not going to rap about hos,” comments SoCalled. “What should I make music about? I should try to represent who I am. When I began digging for samples, I found these old Jewish records, and they were a clue about this funky, old tradition that had been forgotten. Yiddish theater, Cantorial music...all kinds of weird sounds…and the records had the most amazing breaks! And I realized that I could make my hip hop - my music from them.”

Zack Kline: 416 Club Commissions
In partnership with the Jerome Foundation, The Cedar has commissioned seven local artists to compose, practice, and perform new music pieces in collaboration with other local musicians. This project drives The Cedar's vision to support emerging artists.
Versatile violin player and teacher Zack Kline will debut his project Not Too Distant with his bluegrass-inspired chamber group Orange Mighty Trio and guest drummer Peter Leggett (Heiruspecs). The project is a thought experiment that takes the listener through something of an imaginary video game and includes classic Nintendo sounds and instrumental versions of music by Aphex Twin, Postal Service, and Radiohead.
A Charlie Brown Christmas with David Benoit
The jazz that comes from Charlie Brown is a happy jazz, it's a feel-good jazz - it feels good to hear it and it's fun. It's sophisticated - more than a lot of music - maybe closer to classical, but it's still about having a lot of fun. (David Benoit)

Baby Dee with Dreamland Faces
Transgender singer-songwriter Baby Dee has a rich, captivating, otherworldly voice. It soars majestically over mournful, sustained piano chords in Safe Inside the Day [Baby Dee's 2008 Drag City release] before retreating and returning, boldly and forcefully. Baby Dee's resume includes stints as a harpist, a street musician and a sideshow performer, but it seems as if she'd be most comfortable in a world of her own creation, singing vaudeville. Read more »
