The Cedar warmly welcome back the incomparably talented, yet humble ukelele innovator of Hawaii, Jake Shimabukuro. Mixing jazz, rock, classical, traditional Hawaiian music and folk, Jake creates a sound that’s both technically masterful and emotionally powerful…and utterly unique in the music world.

Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles CD release

Celebrate Halloween in style with Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles for company, and for a double treat, celebrate the release of the brand new album by these local faves! Round out the evening with sets by Holly Newsom (of Zoo Animal), and Martin Devaney Band, who have recently completed their fifth album The West End (LP and download).

An Evening with Jake Shimabukuro

A second chance to hear the warm sounds of Hawiian ukulele maestro Jake Shimabukuro, this time as he stretches out over two sets. As anyone who was at Jake's sold out May show at The Cedar can attest, Jake is a phenomenally gifted ukulele player, capable of playing not only at blistering speed, and also with astonishing sensitivity for the music. His repertoire includes pop standards, classical works, film music, and originals--truly something for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss it.

"The Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele!" When he was just four, Hawaii-born Jake Shimabukuro (she-ma-BOO-koo-row) got his first ukulele lesson from his mother. "When I played my first chord I was hooked," says Jake, " I fell in love with the instrument". That love grew into a deep passion to create and innovate.
