There's a reason why Alan Sparhawk (of Low) calls him, "…one of the greatest musicians and human beings I know… Even Charlie's foot coming down on the floorboards speaks with more soul and life than most anything - past or future."
There's a reason why Greg Brown, Richard Adams, Dakota Dave Hull and an ever-growing list of respected musicians give him praise.
There's a reason why magazines write things like, "In an age of commercialism and celebrity and the turn of a quick buck, the soul saving melodies of Parr are like a breath of fresh air, timeless and majestic, princely and magnificent," (Losing Today) when writing about his music. There's a reason why Duluth bluesman Charlie Parr is doing a CD release at The Cedar--it's so you can come and hear what all the buzz is about! Charlie will be aided and abetted by Dave Simonett (of Trampled by Turtles) and Ryan Young (of Pert Near Sandstone).
His albums have received critical acclaim and have sold well into the thousands. He's toured the UK & Ireland twice to sold-out shows in 2004, as well as the West Coast and Southwest United States. He was a guest musician on A Prairie Home Companion in April 2004 and was in the top five on the UK independant charts after his latest album, King Earl, was released in September, 2004 (he previously held the #21 spot on the UK charts after Criminals & Sinners was re-released in 2003).
In addition, Charlie contributed to the soundtrack and co-starred in the independent film, "Who Killed Cock Robin?" directed by Travis Wilkerson. he film screened at the Sundance Film Festival, January 2005 as part of the Dramatic Category Competition and will be shown throughout 2005 on The Sundance Channel. His music was also featured on Paloma, a PBS special in the Summer, 2004, and his music can be heard on radio stations throughout the Midwest and Europe.
