A Monday evening show to both soothe and entrance, with the dreamy, languid songs of Dean Wareham (Luna, Galaxie 500) and Britta Phillips (Luna), and the lovely melodies and sophisticated arrangements of jet-setting chanteuse Keren Ann.
"Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, former members of the New York alt-rock band Luna, write and record their own sweetly swooning pop music as a duo while keeping their old band's successful sound alive and strong. Following the breakup of Luna in 2005 — Wareham also led the legendary Galaxie 500 until its 1991 dissolution — the married couple has released two EPs of melodic indie-pop to complement their debut full-length, L'Avventura. Recording under the name Dean & Britta, the duo has reveled in the opportunity to explore and experiment. Cover songs and obscure '60s throwbacks dot their releases, showcasing the singers' love of Joy Division, Serge Gainsbourg and especially The Velvet Underground. The pair also scored the critically successful 2005 film The Squid and the Whale." (NPR's World Cafe)
"Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips—the dreamy pair, who play airy waltzes and lolling, edge-of-sleep pop tunes with crystalline hooks" (Village Voice)
"Keren Ann is a languorous Parisian chanteuse with a throaty soprano that promises untold pleasures for as long as she likes you. "Lay Your Head Down" even hints she may like you tomorrow, with a nice tune to back it up." (Robert Christgau, Rolling Stone)
"Recorded in studios around the world, Keren Ann's fifth album keeps the dreamy absinthe swirl and the sumptuously pained emotion of her previous work while adding some vital, slo-mo guitar crunch to a few tracks. As quiet and outwardly reserved as ever (even when dusting off every instrument in the orchestra pit), Ms. Zeidel writes songs that Feist or Cat Power would kill to get their hands on..." (Nick Dedina, Rhapsody)
"Sublime." (Sunday Times on Keren Ann)
"...wildly eclectic arrangements are held together by her wonderful vocals, which barely rise above a whisper, but are at once ethereal, seductive and gut-wrenching." (Observer on Keren Ann)
"Serenely languid" (New York Times on Keren Ann)
