Ellis is a rising star in the independent music scene. With her joyful, unpretentious acoustic folk rock style, this Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter has been steadily building a loyal fan-base of thousands. Tonight we'll be celebrating the release of Ellis' sixth CD, Break The Spell, a few days before it becomes available to the general public on Feb 5, 2008. Ellis will perform as part of a trio featuring her long-time drummer/percussionist Jennifer "JJ" Jones, and Anne Heaton will play keys and also join Ellis on backing vocals. Anne will also do a short opening set. Break The Spell is a collection of soulful songs with complex arrangements that skillfully avoid overpowering the message. Fans and music critics alike describe Ellis' music as a journey of self- discovery and awakening. Break The Spell embodies this sentiment, featuring lyrics rich with meaning. In the songs, Ellis explores the power and complexity of loss as well as the opportunity we all have to re-invent ourselves each day.
Touring nationally, Ellis has already accrued a wealth of accomplishments including multiple “Best Musician” titles and several songwriting honors. But even more outstanding is her sincere graciousness and ability to remain down to earth while her career is riding high. Ellis got her start at age 16, singing her own songs at open mics soon after moving from Texas to Minneapolis. She began touring full-time in 2000, focusing on the women’s music scene. Branching out in 2006, she has since created a buzz on the folk music circuit after being voted “Most Wanted to Return” at the 2006 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, earning a formal showcase spot at the 2007 Northeast Folk Alliance, winning a top five spot in the 2007 Telluride Troubadour contest, and receiving a standing ovation the main stage at the 2007 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. Now it is time for her to receive the hometown crowd and accolades on this special night--be a part of it!

Dear Ellis,
I was fortunate to have pre-purchased your latest CD, "Break the Spell". I can't begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed it since it arrived and how it has helped me this year.
I lost my younger brother Stephen suddenly in January of 2007 making 2007 a very long, sad and stressful year for me and my family. Your music helped me to cope with my sadness by keeping me in the present moment. (I also have three other CDs of yours) Your new CD was like a breath of fresh air finally. Thank you so very much for sending it to me.
My "intention" for 2008, (I like your word for resolution)will be to continue to "Live in the present moment" as I struggled to do throughout 2007. This was my Dad's constant message to me throughout my Life. My Dad was a very wise and loving man. He was my hero.
My Dad also told me when I was young and heading off to college that "Success in Life is not measured in material or financial accomplishments, but by the number of those who have benefited by your Love. Their returned affections should be treasured as Life's true reward. Know yourself, your talents and your limitations and make each a factor in the balance in Living. Never stop learning, not for knowledge itself, but for the realization of the magnitude of Life." Arthur L. Sullivan, Jr. (Lyrics for a beautiful song someday perhaps!)
Thank you again so much for making your new CD. Perhaps if you ever land in the East Coast, I can come to hear you sing again. Until then, as I am sure you do, live life one moment at a time. They are all precious.
