The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc

“I surrender unconditionally to these master musicians. The worn concept of “tradition and innovation” have rarely been used as smart as this” – LIRA

The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc is a fiddle trio from Norway, Sweden and the Shetland Islands who swiftly gained a reputation for their gripping and unique blend of fiddle music since their inception in early 2009.

Comprising Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway), Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland Islands), each regarded as leading exponents of their respective traditions, they have found themselves in great demand throughout the world performing together as ‘The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc’

With a firm focus on the rich traditional fiddle music from where they each belong, they have developed a sound that has been described as “unique”, “meaningful”,”intense” and “invigorating”.
Their clever use of harmony, rhythm, riffs & bass lines creates a sound that leaves the listener enthralled but at the same time dumbfounded that the sound only comes from three fiddles.
“Seldom before can three fiddlers have sounded so well matched as the Nordic Fiddlers Bloc. And seldom before can three fiddles have sounded so much like four and at times five instruments without using electronic trickery.” – The Herald

To date their music has taken them to the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland and across mainland Europe captivating audiences along the way.
2016 sees the release of their eagerly awaited second album, “Deliverance”, the follow up to their eponymously entitled debut album released in September 2011 to great critical acclaim.

“On the evidence to hand, pure fiddle doesn’t get much better than The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc.” – Folkworld
Eric Christopher and Anthony Ihrig
Fiddler Eric Christopher and banjo player Anthony Ihrig have spent the last ten years performing, touring and recording with The High 48s. And in those ten years, they’ve had a lot of downtime: backstage in green rooms, hotel rooms and at bluegrass festivals smack in the middle of nowhere. Playing around with the banjo-fiddle duet--that basic, indispensable unit of all bluegrass and old-time music--has long been their backstage time-killer of choice. And eventually Eric and Anthony decided to move their duet routine from the green room to the stage.

Sometimes they take the straight-up bluegrass approach, fiddle tunes played hard with the pedal to the floor. Sometimes they poke, prod and cajole the banjo-fiddle duet into new musical territory. Whether they’re onstage or off, each performance is a musical conversation between two players--fun, freewheeling and never the same twice.
