Celebrate summer with the sizzling Tel Aviv surf guitar and tuba band Boom Pam! While surf guitar seems irrevocably associated with Dick Dale and California in the 50's and 60's, it is less well known that Dick Dale was born to a Lebanese father, and incorporated many Middle Eastern influences into his early work. Boom Pam now brings the music back from the Middle East--new sounds yet familiar, and very danceable!

Rob Curto's Forró For All: a band dedicated to the sound of Northeastern Brazil’s “forró pé de serra”, performed with a sensibility born of New York City’s diverse and dynamic musical culture. Forró is both a musical genre and an event. In Northeastern Brazil a forró party unites communities and generations, with couples young and old dancing to accordion, zabumba and triangle. This collective celebration is a creative response to the difficulties of life in the Northeast and an expression of fantastic musical intelligence and wit. Forró For All’s founding member, Rob Curto, is a musician who both respects and transcends idioms, mixing elements of jazz with a language and feel that is distinctly Brazilian. At times his playing betrays a passion for rock and North American popular music of all kinds, showing always a great love for the bellows, buttons and keys of the accordion, the principal instrument of forró.

Robert Rich's music creates a world of primordial mystery and intense beauty. Electronics merge seamlessly with primitive instruments in lush atmospheres. Above it all float melodies played on bamboo flute and steel guitar. With the fabric of this hypnotic journey, Rich weaves a connection between human cultures both past and present, near and far. With over two dozen albums, Robert Rich has helped define the genres of ambient music, dark-ambient, tribal and trance, yet his music remains hard to categorize. Part of his unique sound comes from using home-made acoustic and electronic instruments, microtonal tunings, computer-based signal processing, chaotic systems and feedback networks. Don't miss this rare opportunity to catch Robert live, with a gorgeous backdrop presentation of Daniel Colvin's computer-generated movie Atlas Dei!

Austin-based LaFave is one of an increasing number of modern rock troubadours from the southern Plains - but it is the strength of his live shows that make him one of the very best. His songs are reminiscent of the Dust Bowl heritage of fellow Oklahoman Woody Guthrie, the quiet folk reflections of Bob Dylan, and the rock anthems of Bruce
Springsteen. His latest release, Cimarron Manifesto, just out on Red House Records and currently sitting at #1 on the Americana Music Association album charts, features a typically strong blend of poignant songs from LaFave's pen, along with covers of Donovan, Dylan and Joe South. He'll be appearing at The Cedar with a three-piece band, including ace guitarist (and long-time Tom Russell compadré) Andrew Hardin. CITY PAGES A-LIST PICK!

Tortoise's almost entirely instrumental music defies easy categorization, variously described as art-rock or math-rock. The members have roots in Chicago's fertile music scene, playing in various indie rock and punk groups. Tortoise was among the first American indie rock bands to incorporate
styles closer to Krautrock, dub, minimalism, electronica and various
jazz styles, rather than the standard rock and roll and punk that had
dominated indie rock for years. Fellow Chicagoans Make Believe, featuring Tim Kinsella (CAP'N JAZZ, OWLS, Joan of Arc), will open. CITY PAGES A-LIST PICK!

Eleven years ago, several Cedar volunteers wanted to help end the season with an all day concert and dance party that was also a fundraiser for the Cedar. A glorious time was had by all. This year's Grateful for The Cedar, with a line-up that conjures up the spirit of the original event , is sure to please. All of these musicians value The Cedar stage as a place to stretch out and get comfortable, then take their music to new heights. We'll start early and finish late as we wrap up the 2006--2007 season and bring on the summertime!

Kim RicheyKim Richey is one of those great singer/songwriters that once discovered, you cannot understand why she is not the household name her abundant talents demand. After writing huge hits with Radney Foster and Trisha Yearwood in the 90's, she has released a string of brilliant solo albums, culminating after a five-year wait in her July 10, 2007 release Chinese Boxes. Exquisitely produced by Giles Martin (the son of legendary Beatles producer George Martin) and recorded in London, Chinese Boxes is a floaty pop-folk masterpiece replete with songs dealing with the complexity of relationships and revealing a growing wisdom.

Fans of breakthrough artist Robert Randolph need look no further for an authentic source of inspiration: The Campbell Brothers present Sacred Steel: African-American gospel music with electric steel guitar, pedal steel and vocal. This tradition is just now emerging from the House of God Keith Dominion Church, where for over sixty years it has been an integral part of worship and a vital, if little known, American tradition. As the music moves from sanctuary to concert hall -- including the
Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music and
Symphony Space -- secular audiences are now able to appreciate a
performance both devoted and rocking. The music of the Campbell Brothers so captivated avant garde jazz guru John Medeski that he produced and guest performed on their most recent album, Can You Feel It? (Ropeadope)
