Jordanian virtuoso oud player Sakher Hattar performing classical and folkloric Arab music with the accompaniment of local pan-global ensemble Crossing Borders, and a fundraiser for Lebanon relief. Sakher Hattar is among the most significant Arab musicians of his generation. He was awarded first place at the 1993 International Competition for Oud in Cairo. He displays intense musical skill and passion while performing rarely heard makams (modes) such as masri ballady in which all but one of the notes are quarter tones. Sakher creates a sensual sound that will fulfill the traditional Arabic music listener’s expectation of tarab (intense listening pleasure). Tonight, they will be celebrating the release of Sakher’s new CD “The Passionate Voice Of The Oud”. Please note: funds will be raised through CD sales and donation for the Lebanon Crisis Fund at Mercy Corps.
