Take deep Ukrainian roots, plant ‘em in rich Minnesotan soil and nourish with fiddle and mandolin, and given enough time you might end up with something resembling one-of-a-kind treasure Peter Ostroushko, a frequent performer on A Prairie Home Companion, and equally at home with folk, jazz and the classics.

For this show, Peter will be showcasing tunes from his new Red House Records release Postcards. This gem of a recording features a series of Peter's original tunes he wrote while on the road traveling with A Prairie Home Companion. Each tune is imbued with a strong sense of place—aural postcards from Baghdad to the Berkshires, Manassas to Montenegro, and from Los Angeles to post 9-11 New York. As Peter says in the liner notes of Postcards, “Having a great time, wish you were here.”

Peter's guest tonight will be singer Ruth MacKenzie, who previously worked with Peter when he performed fiddle on Ruth's moving rendition of Finnish epic Kalevala: Dream of the Salmon Maiden.
