Big Sky with Strange Friends and special guests Steve Lazarski and Thupten Dadak
Big, beautiful music and extended jams from didgeridoo-wielding, earthquakingly rumbly throat-singing Big Sky and offbeat quirkiness from Strange Friends! Big Sky combines former members of Twin Cities faves Exploding Head Trick, Blue Canoe, and the award winning Little Green Men. Extended jams are a highlight of their shows, but they also feature a mind-blowing female vocalist (Johnna Morrow) and a highly respected throatsinger (Steve Sklar)! Big Sky (also featuring drummer Joe Miller and bassist/vocalist Randy Davis) will be joined by special guests didgeridooist Steve Lazarski and Tibetan musician/vocalist Thupten Dadak. Expect lots of music from their upcoming CD, Remembering the Vision.
Quirky openers Strange Friends are not only strange (in a good, highly entertaining way), they're also very eclectic--from honky-tonk through alt country to straight up rock.
"It only took a couple decades for local band Strange Friends to
release a debut CD, and it lost a core member along the way. But
"Dave's Not Here," dedicated to the late Dave Pedersen, is worth the wait, with offbeat, boozy, sometimes bluesy bar pop of a high order, spotlighting the songs of John Fenner and Eric Hohn, and also featuring
singer Katy Thomasberg, guitarist Pat Mavity and drummer Michael Bland." (Tom Surowicz, Minneapolis Star Tribune 11/3/06)
