Don Ross and Michael Manring: an acoustic guitarist and a bassist, each of them at the pinnacle of performance with their respective instruments. In September 1996, Canadian guitarist Don Ross managed to do what no other player has done: win the prestigious U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship for the second time (he first won in 1988). The competition, held yearly in Winfield, Kansas, cannot be won only with immaculate technique, but the player's music must also display a high degree of emotion and intensity — hallmarks of Don's style. Borrowing freely from jazz, folk, rock and classical music, when asked, Don usually pigeonholes his music as "Heavy Wood"!

Renowned solo bassist Michael Manring (former tour-mate of Michael Hedges, and collaborator with Patti Larkin, Henry Kaiser, John Gorka and Thomas Dolby, among others) displays stunning virtuosity and originality on his chosen instrument, and shatters the commonly held belief that the bass is best reserved for supporting roles.

Among many other honors, Andy McKee earned first place in the 2004 Kansas Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. The young guitarist claims Don Ross as one of his greatest sources of inspiration.
