Clive Carroll
Don't miss this very welcome return visit for a whole show-length performance by one of the stars of International Guitar Night 2006, Clive Carroll. A former protege of John Renbourn, yet with his own unique crisp, clean style.
"An acoustic fingerpicker with a beautifully clean technique and the ability to draw you into his music with astonishing ease. ...a striking blend of classical guitar meets folk with seamless changes from chamber music into Irish reels. There's sincerity in his playing and in his approach, which leaves you feeling it's all being played for you personally." - Guitar Techniques Magazine
Born in Chelmsford, England, Clive Carroll has been immersed in a diverse range of music ever since. At the age of two (!) Clive's father made him his first banjo; during his pre-teen years he played banjo in the family band, and by the age of eleven he had picked up the guitar.
In 1998, he was given the opportunity to play at his local pub with John Renbourn. That night Renbourn encouraged him to record a solo album. That album, Sixth Sense, received an unusually high level of attention from radio shows, reviewers and journalists and has since been described as 'a milestone in the journey of the steel-string guitar.' Following that release in 1999, John Renbourn took Clive on tour all over Europe and America.
His latest release is The Red Guitar, and contains eleven original pieces as well as works by Gilbert Biberian & Wayne Shorter.
"The Red Guitar is that comparative rarity - an instrumental album par excellence that can be appreciated by fellow-guitarists and us mere mortals alike! ...listening to him play is as natural as having a conversation with a good friend." - NetRhythms
