The Twin Cities Hot Club (TCHC) represents Minnesota in the burgeoning
revival of gypsy jazz originally popularized by Django Reinhardt,
Stephane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France during 1930’s Paris. TCHC recreates not only the famous la pompe (the pump) that distinguishes this romantic brand of acoustic jazz, but also gypsy bossanova, musette, bolero and swing. TCHC perform this timeless deep-rooted music that is physical and speaks directly to the heart.

TCHC have been sharing their expressive, “hot” style with audiences since the fall of 2004. TCHC members Robert Bell (g), Reynold Philipsek (g), Gary Schulte (v), and Matt Senjem (b) perform standards from the genre, inspired original compositions and always communicate the joy in this music. The group has released a CD and DVD featuring a live performance, swing dancers and band/fan interviews. In 2006, TCHC was nominated as best jazz artist by the Minnesota Music Academy.

The Southside Aces perform traditional New Orleans jazz. In New Orleans, the jazz tradition thrives off a wide array of songs and styles. With such a wealth of good music to work with, the group is dedicated to highlighting the songs with fresh interpretations. They take full advantage of diverse repertoire from Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and AJ Piron as well as crescent city classics like Basin Street Blues and St. James Infirmary.

The Southside Aces brand of jazz has found the relatively young group opening for the Minnesota Orchestra, performing for the Hot Summer and Doc Evans jazz festivals and sharing billing with New Orleans favorites The Hot Eight Brass Band. Using the traditional yet unique instrumentation of sousaphone, guitar, drums, clarinet, trombone, and trumpet gives the Aces their signature sound.
