Celebrate summer with the sizzling Tel Aviv surf guitar and tuba band Boom Pam! While surf guitar seems irrevocably associated with Dick Dale and California in the 50's and 60's, it is less well known that Dick Dale was born to a Lebanese father, and incorporated many Middle Eastern influences into his early work. Boom Pam now brings the music back from the Middle East--new sounds yet familiar, and very danceable!

Boom Pam create an adventurous blend of rock with international flavors, including Balkan, Greek, Kleizmer, Arab, Mediterranean and others. BOOM PAM was formed in 2003 as a trio of 2 electric guitars and a tuba by Uzi Feinerman, Uri Brauner Kinrot and Yuval "Tuby" Zolotov. Shortly afterwards, the band started playing massively throughout Israel. Along the way, a drum set was added to the band, played by Dudu Kochav. The name of the band – BOOM PAM – is the name of a major hit, recorded by guitar-hero and singer Aris San. The latter was a Greek singer who immigrated to Israel during the late 1950s and fell in love both with the country and with a local woman. He was the first to combine electric guitar playing with an ethnic attitude, which was only played with traditional instruments until then. This attitude, of bringing new music with modern playing but which is deeply rooted in the long-lasting folk music, has always been an inspiration for the band members.

"Exuberance was the
prime tradition for the Israeli band Boom Pam — which used two guitars,
drums and tuba to make oompah-happy connections between surf-rock,
Balkan dance tunes and the hora." (New York Times, Jan 23, 2007)
