Harmonious Wail and TC Hot Club
Which state is better, Minnesota or Wisconsin? You be the judge, when Madison, Wisconsin gypsy jazz band Harmonious Wail goes head to head with their good buddies from the Twin Cities, TC Hot Club in this winter warmer double-header.
Specializing in the style of Django Reinhardt, The Wail is made of mandolin, guitar, bass, and killer female vocals with snare percussion. On their latest album, Resist Temptation, they branch out from the mode that they established on previous releases, combining original compositions with innovative renditions of songs by Tom Waits, Steely Dan, The Velvet Underground, and The Band.
Representing Minnesota, The Twin Cities Hot Club (TCHC) recreate not only the famous la pompe (the pump) that distinguishes gypsy jazz, but also gypsy bossanova, musette, bolero and swing. TCHC throw themselves into this timeless, deep-rooted physical music, letting it speak directly to the heart.

Harmonious Wail
by Jim (not verified) Thu, 01/29/2009 - 1:09pmThis is a great band. Sims is a master on the mandolin, well taught by Jethro Burns and Berkley School. Vocals by Maggie are outstanding. The Wail is a must see band that does not disappoint!
