Open Stage with Dan Rumsey

Wednesday, April 8, 2009 - 8:00pm
6:45pm

Take advantage of this great opportunity to put yourself on the Cedar
stage, perform two or three songs, and enjoy the top-quality sound! Host Dan Rumsey's powerful, soothing voice washes over you and is delivered along with tasty licks and chords from his guitars. When not performing solo, the sound is often wonderfully augmented by the flute and backup singing of Sally Heinz. Dan is also a member of the Rhythm Pups, a group formed by his brother Tim Rumsey & Bret Byfield. Dan has 2 CD's out on Dreamhorse Records, is working on the next one and also working on a children's CD. A multi-instrumentalist, Dan also contributes to the recordings and performances of other musicians, and is the long-standing host of the Open Mic at Riverview Cafe.

The Cedar Open Stage offers optional critiques of the participants by the host following the last performer. The supportive environment always attracts an interesting and talented assortment of participants. All are welcome, performers and audience members. Please support this season’s sponsors Hoffman's Guitars, MBOTMA, The Podium, and West Bank School of Music, who through their generosity enable this event to be offered for FREE!

I was just wondering how long you get to play on the open stage and how long it usually goes to? Do alot of people perform? Should I get there before 6:45 to sing up?

THanks for your time.

Ryan Kimm

Hi Ryan,

Typically you get to play 2 or 3 songs (depending on how many others turn up on the night), so say 10 minutes. About 15 acts perform typically, and usually wraps up by 9.30pm, followed by the optional feedback session. If you want to ensure you get to play, or you have a particular time slot in mind, then yes, we recommend you get there and wait in line a little before 6.45pm. Some cameraderie usually develops among those waiting for the doors.
