Caribbean Chutney with Anand Yankarran

An evening of uptempo Caribbean chutney soca music with Trinidad and Tobago star Anand Yankarran, renowned for his hits Nanda Baba and Jo Jo! Yankaran had his musical start at age ten as the leader of the Waterloo Hindu School choir, which won a Divali singing competition. He studied music theory with musicians Bansraj Ramkissoon, Mungal Patessar, Pradip Shankar, Sunil Verma and Kavita Verma and was taught the harmonium by Rakesh Yankarran. He can also play the dholak, tabla and sitar. 1989 marked his introduction to the Trinidadian public with his Stag Lager Beer song "Zindabad Trinbago" which was recorded on his first album "Victory", but at the age of ten he was the leader of the Waterloo Hindu School choir, which won the Divali singing competition from Lakshmi Girls. His specialty is mixing soca with classical and calypso. He has toured extensively in North America, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica and England, Canada and the United States.
