Third Tuesday Dance Night with Southside Aces

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 - 9:00pm
7:15pm

The Cedar is pleased to continue the Third Tuesday Dance Night series with the return of Southside Aces. Third Tuesday is a new monthly event for couple dancing featuring live music and the great, open dance floor of The Cedar. Want to brush up your dancing skills first? Not to worry, renowned swing dance instructor Bill Butler will give a free dance lesson from 7:30--8PM to get you warmed up.

Southside Aces perform traditional New Orleans jazz. The band first began as the brainchild of Clarinetist Tony Balluff and Sousaphone player Erik Jacobson. Their whispers and rumors materialized in Tony’s foyer near Pillsbury and 27th in South Minneapolis, late August 2003. Since their first gig on a flatbed truck in Apple Valley, they’ve played weddings, festivals, clubs— “music furnished for all occasions”. The Aces self-produced and released two CDs: “All Aboard!!” on Mardi Gras, 2005, and “Bucktown Bounce” in September of 2006. Their music garnered the declaration, “A true authentic New Orleans dance-hall style band” from the New Orleans Traditional Jazz Quarterly.

The Cedar has hosted participatory dance events regularly since its inception 20 years ago. This past summer the sprung, wooden floor at the venue was re-finished for the first time since The Cedar opened its doors in March, 1989.

Tickets available at the door for $8 per person.
