Loren Kellen Celebration

Sunday, November 8, 2009 - 4:00pm - 6:30pm
5:00pm

On Sunday November 8, from 5:00 – 7:30 PM, the Cedar will host a memorial ceremony for Loren Kellen, a long-time member of the Twin Cities puppet and mask theater community, who died from a heart attack on October 2.  Loren was best known for the fiery red canoe and raft flotilla that brought The Sun across Powderhorn Lake at the culmination of the MayDay Ceremony each year, and he was an inspiration to multiple generations of builders and creators and performers with Heart of the Beast, Bare Bones, and Bedlam theaters.  He transformed the homes of people who hired him for his building imagination and skills; he transformed the wardrobes of anyone who shared outdoor winter activities with him.  A master manipulator of space, an exuberant dumpster dueler, a flamboyant thespian, a graceful dancer, a conduit to the center of the earth, his spirit hovers over numerous events and landmarks in our community.  He is and will be sorely missed.

More information about Loren’s remarkable life, the ceremony, and the Loren Kellen Memorial Fund, can be found at www.lorenkellen.com.
