Boiled in Lead return to the Cedar after almost two years absence, in a benefit for their ailing comrade. Fresh from standing ovations in both the Chapel and the Concert Hall  at Carleton College, this “...legendary figure in the field of  American folk rock...” (World Music Central) comes back to The Cedar to help heal guitarist Dean Magraw. Dean MagrawDean’s joining Boiled In Lead in 2005 was a pivotal factor in the band’s resurgence that led to their acclaimed 25th Anniversary release Silver. Earlier this year, Dean Magraw was diagnosed with an illness that  required a bone marrow transplant. He’s had to cancel all performances while he recovers, so the net proceeds from tonight’s concert will go towards his recovery. There will also be a silent auction, with items including signed prints from Sidney Maurer,  Gregory W. Bitz, Sherlyn Barnes and Erin Sayer. Ruth MackenzieRuth Mackenzie, a frequent collaborator with Dean, will join the  quartet for a few songs to add her vocal lilt to the evening.

(Silver) “...smashes genres, hits the most primal nerves, and –  even in its acoustic moments – shakes your bones.” – Mpls-St.Paul magazine

“Boiled in Lead’s return is to be greeted with huge applause, mass  cheering and flag-waving in berserk fashion.” – fRoots (UK)

“Boiled in Lead keys into the most powerful elements of all the genres the band pulls from, finding a hypnotic common denominator in  ancient Irish drones and rock rhythms, a similar energy source behind  electric guitar solos and the shrill piping of penny whistles.” — Express Milwaukee

“...this is traditional music brought to the boil. Silver may not be for the purists but it’s one of the best things you’ll hear this year. Trust me on this.” — Dai Jeffries, Rock’n’Reel (UK)

“...the most important folk-rock band to appear since the 1970s... required listening...” — MusicHound Folk: The Essential Album Guide

“...the prime purveyor of a style of Celtic music infused with punk-rock attitude, developing over the years with a hard-driving swirl that combined Irish folk with heavy rock and elements of styles from  all over the world. ...one of the best bands Minnesota's ever  produced. (When they play) all-acoustic, ...don't be fooled into thinking that means ‘quiet’ — even without amplification, Boiled  In Lead can summon up furious punk-folk energy.” — The Onion (2004)

Tickets go on sale at noon Fri Oct 23 from the Cedar Ticketline (612-338-2674 ext 2), Cedar outlets, and online at Ticketweb.
