A rare opportunity to catch Doc Watson as he returns to The Cedar after a five year absence! Recipient of the National Medal of Arts, National Heritage Fellowship and seven Grammy Awards (including recent Lifetime Achievement), Doc Watson is a legendary performer who blends his traditional Appalachian musical roots with bluegrass, country, gospel and blues to create a unique style and an expansive repertoire.  Doc is widely considered to be a national treasure and has inspired generations of guitar players and enthusiasts. At 87 years young, Doc has been playing guitar for 74 years and worked with such names as Earl Scruggs, Chet Atkins, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. For years Doc performed with his son, Merle, until Merle's untimely passing in 1985. After some time off, Doc returned to the stage in 1988 and started Merlefest in Wilksboro, NC, which has become the largest folk festival in the U.S. with over 85,000 attendees annually. Doc will be accompanied by old-time banjoist, David Holt. Holt, a beloved storyteller, banjoist and old-time player is a Grammy winner and four time nominee. Their duet CD Legacy won a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Recording in 2003.
