Portland indie folk act Horse Feathers is centered on the songs and vocals of Justin Ringle, yet the contributions of the superlative string section (violinist Nathan Crockett, cellist Catherine Odell, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Cooper) lift the entire group to a much higher plane. After celebrating release day of their last album Thistled Spring at The Cedar (April 20) to a warmly appreciative crowd, the group will once again be celebrating a brand new release on this visit: their new 7" is to be released Nov 2, featuring a cover of Nirvana's Drain You paired up with new song Bonnet of Briars.

Opening will be Vermont-based singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, who won considerable critical and audience acclaim for her ambitious retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as a folk-rock opera Hadestown (Righteous Babe, 2010). Not content to stop there, Anaïs has recently been working on an album of reworked British ballads.

Tickets are on sale now from the Cedar Ticketline (612-338-2674 ext 2), from hard-working Cedar volunteers in the front lobby during shows, from Cedar outlets (Electric Fetus, Irish on Grand, Homestead Pickin' Parlor, and Depth of Field), and online at Ticketweb.

All Cedar shows are all ages. Students with ID may gain discounted admission for tickets purchased at the door.
