Yuval Ron Ensemble
with Andreas Kapsalis and Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo
An evening of Sufi and Sacred Hebrew music from the Middle East and South Asia, performed by The Yuval Ron Ensemble. The Ensemble recently enjoyed a successful tour of Spain in the company of Gypsy musicians and dancers (June 2010), and were featured performers at the Sacred Music Festival in Fez, Morocco (June 2009).
Israeli born, Oscar winning composer, World music producer and artist Yuval Ron (Oud and musical director) will be presenting the ecstatic music of the mystical Sufi traditions of Middle East and Hindu-Pakistan. The concert will feature the Sufi Whirling Dervish Aziz and Sukhawat Ali Khan, a master Qawwali (devotional) singer from Pakistan, as well as Armenian woodwind master Norik Manoukian, Yuval Ron (oud, vocals and musical direction) and Jamie Papish (percussion). This program is a pioneering endeavor in bringing together the Middle Eastern and South Asian vocal and musical traditions into a new and exhilarating trance-induced accord.
Opening tonight will be the experimental duo of steel string, ten finger tapping guitar prodigy Andreas Kapsalis, and nylon string Balkan folk guitarist Goran Ivanovic, who fuse their Serbian and Greek folk music roots with modern, classical, world, jazz and beyond.
