Intimate and hushed, Sharon Van Etten's folk tunes tend to quiet any room she plays them in. These are the type of nuanced songs that can render a crowd breathless.

Van Etten was introduced to an eclectic blend of folk and rock 'n' roll while growing up in Nashville. She worked her way to Brooklyn, and after a national tour in support of her debut album, Because I Was In Love, she turned to Epic, a seven-song LP that was one of NPR Music's favorite records of 2010.

Lined with melancholic heartbreak, Van Etten bears it all — the betrayal, the obsession, and everything that comes along with collapsed romances. But where there is dark, there is also light, and she is not afraid to demonstrate her hopeful side. Epic is definitely an album beaming with learned experiences and growth, leaving every listener with something to take away. (text from NPR's World Cafe)

Sharon will be performing the songs of Epic with a full band at this Cedar show.

The evening will be opened by StarDweller (formerly of Americana band The Winter Blanket), who will be supported by Brian Moen (Peter Wolf Crier), Jake Hanson (Haley Bonar, Mason Jennings) and Jeremy Ylvisaker (Andrew Bird, Alpha Consumer), folllowed by Secretly Canadian recording artist Little Scream, touring in support of her album The Golden Record, and supported by bassist Adam Luksetich (The Tanks).

The shimmering sound of Sharon Van Etten’s Jagjaguwar debut album, Tramp (due out February 7, 2012), both defies and illuminates the unsteadiness of a life in flux. Throughout the 14 months of scattered recording sessions, Van Etten was without a home --...
Little Scream
"...the singer-songwriter has a raw banshee energy that's absolutely mesmerizing.  She's an artist in the same vein as Scout Niblett, Patti Smith, and Cat Power -- a ferocious singer who uses her voice as an amorphous instrument, shifting from tenderly...

StarDweller is the current alter ego of Stephanie Davila, the former songstress of Americana-band The Winter Blanket. Her songs continue to be born out of necessity—a way to deal with ghosts passed and loves lost. But these new harrowing songs are...
