After last summer's riveting appearances together at a select few venues around the country, including The Cedar, Thao & Mirah are back on the Cedar stage to celebrate a year of collaboration, and their hot new release on Kill Rock Stars, Thao & Mirah!

Thao & Mirah both often go by their first names only. That is mostly why they wanted to make a record together. Other reasons include: they are friends, they were finally in San Francisco at the same time, and both joyfully welcomed a short departure from their respective successful solo careers to collaborate on a project. The two enlisted dear friend and colleague Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs, 4AD) as co-producer, guest musician (and for one song, guest writer).

Thao & Mirah each wrote a new batch of beautiful songs which were jointly performed and produced by the three with some help from fine Bay Area friends. The album is a collection of songs from two distinctly different, highly respected songwriters, threaded and woven together with the creative energy and freedom of collaboration. All songs maintain the writers' shared gifts: profound emotional poignancy with lyrics and melodies to match and stay with you.

Both Thao & Mirah work closely with Air Traffic Control--an organization dedicated to helping musicians become better social activists. They will team up with ATC to focus the release and touring efforts of Thao and Mirah toward supporting causes and organizations they love.

Dear Friends,
We are encouraging our fans to raise their voices in support of positive social change.  With so many vital social services under attack by conservative lawmakers, now is the time to dedicate ourselves to reversing this dangerous drift from humanity in government.  We will focus on supporting local domestic violence shelters and childhood sexual abuse prevention programs in each city we visit on tour.  Through discourse, education, action and strategy we believe it is possible to create communities in which all people are given the respect they deserve. Because we have decided to add one dollar to our show's ticket price, the simple act of buying a ticket will enable us to raise much-needed funding for the organizations in your communities providing this urgently needed work.  Please show your solidarity by joining us in support of the women and children in all of our lives.

Sincerely,
Thao and Mirah

Violist Alex Guy, a frequent collaborator and bandmate of Mirah, will provide an opening set with her project Led to Sea.

Last minute addition: Local faves Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles are now on the bill for a set after Led to Sea and before Thao and Mirah!.

Please note: Bobby will no longer be performing at this show, due to a van malfunction.
