Fundraiser for Somali Youth Programs

A fundraising event to support the Somali Education and Social Advocacy group. Somali Education and Social Advocacy has been engaging the Somali American youth of Cedar Riverside in positive activities including annual basketball and soccer tournaments, and monthly workshops with youth and elders. Their goals are to bridge the generational, cultural and language gaps, and to foster understanding and mentoring opportunities, and enable participation in arts events at institutions such as the Cedar Cultural Center in order that youth can learn about various cultures and experience the arts.

Checks should be made to Midwest Community Develoment Inc on behalf of Somali Education and Social Advocacy Center.

Program of events:

Opening speech and welcome
Directors of Somali women Network and Midwest Family Development speeches
Spoken word performance  by Young Achievers
Bihi speech
DVD about The National Somali American Basketball Tournament. (4-5 min)
DVD "Ana's Playground" introduced by producer Eric Howell (20-25) minutes
Wrap up.
End by 8:00 pm
