Joe Horton: Dis.Confort poster detail

416 Club Commissions is an annual program of The Cedar, working in conjunction with The Jerome Foundation, that commissions seven emerging, Minnesota-based artists to create new work that is debuted in a public concert series at The Cedar. The 2014 recipients were chosen by a panel of Twin Cities music industry professionals including record label owners, music educators, local musicians, and Cedar staff. Each of the seven artists will present their work on Monday evenings beginning January 13th and running through to the end of February.

Horton is the front man of hip-hop group No Bird Sing, and an organizer for the improvisational jazz/rap ensemble, Coloring Time. No Bird Sing was recently signed to the Strange Famous record label run by Sage Francis. Horton wishes to compose a collaborative piece to be performed with emcee Kristoff Krane. The piece would also incorporate a dance performance by Taja Will and Blake Nellis. Inspiration for this piece will come from ancient rituals, yoga, and chanting.

Complete line-up:
Joe Horton (emcee)

Graham O'Brien (drums)

Michelle Kinney (cello)

Chastity Brown portrait
Throw all genres and hyphenates together you want to describe her – indie, roots & soul, rock, blues & country – they are alright, and also not enough. Chastity Brown writes songs that are carried deep in the American psyche, the hunger, desperation...
