12/14/2007 - 8:00pm
Free Range Pickin'It is not the holiday season at the Cedar without the annual Free Range Pickin’ Holiday Show! This year, there is even more reason to celebrate, as the show is the official debut of FRP's third CD “Flight Risk.” Engineered and mixed by Matthew Zimmerman (Peter Ostroushko, Pat Donohue), this collection of all original material explores a diverse range of modern acoustic styles, showcasing the band’s innovative and eclectic musical perspectives. The Get Up Johns will kick off the evening.
Recently nominated for Bluegrass Artist/Group of the Year by the Minnesota Music Academy, Free Range Pickin' is an original acoustic string band that creatively infuses their taste for tradition with contemporary influences and imaginative songwriting. The Twin Cities quartet's eclectic approach to its music, based on lush four-part harmonies and energetic instrumentation (mandolin, banjo, guitar and bass), explores the crossroads of bluegrass, newgrass, contemporary folk, and acoustic jamband music – and continues to generate attention on the national and international stage:
“Free Range Pickin’ is helping to write the next chapter of acoustic music in America.” - Tradition Magazine
