From coffeehouses to concert halls, festivals and beyond, John Hammond has spent forty plus years entertaining blues, folk and rock audiences around the world, performing intense solo-acoustic blues. His punchy new release Push Comes to Shove, produced by G. Love, emphatically demonstrates age has not caused Hammond to slow down or lose his bite. Opening act will be one of Minnesota's finest, fingerstyle guitar wizard Phil Heywood.
A Grammy Award winner and four time nominee, Hammond is also a multiple W.C. Handy award winner who has shared the stage and/or recorded with many of the masters, including Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker and Howlin' Wolf. John has recorded over thirty albums and his passionate commitment to traditional blues made him the natural choice to host the BRAVO TV special and Sony Home Video, The Search for Robert Johnson. In an unprecendented late-career burst of songwriting creativity, Push Comes to Shove has five Hammond originals, as well as a G. Love song and a brilliant Tom Waits cover, reminiscent of Hammond's acclaimed earlier project of Waits' covers, Wicked Grin. "Hammond wails like werecats have claws in his jugular" (Rick Mason, City Pages A-List Pick 3/29/07)
