Karen Mueller CD Release Concert, with special guests Lisa Fuglie and Pete Mathison
10/18/2007 - 7:30pm
Join premier autoharp and dulcimer player Karen Mueller as she celebrates the release of her latest CD, "Landscape of the Heart." The album is a joyous nod to her prairie roots, full of upbeat tunes and songs, including traditional, original and contemporary pieces. Performing with Karen tonight will be two long-time musical friends, Pete Mathison on bass and vocals (Cousin Dad, Farm Accident), and Lisa Fuglie on fiddle, mandolin and vocals (Monroe Crossing).
"In the hands of a few gifted people, the autoharp can swell into the sound of a whole orchestra. Karen Mueller is one of those few." -Minneapolis Star Tribune
"She's taking the autoharp into new and exciting territory."
-Dirty Linen
Following the release of her first solo recording, "Clarity," in 1993, Karen has been touring nationally and overseas, winning over audiences that leave her shows saying, "I didn't know an autoharp could sound like that!" Her intricate fingerstyle melody picking has been appreciated by fellow musicians as diverse as banjo master Tony Trischka, pianist George Winston, and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones.
"Karen Mueller's touch, timing and taste make her a true virtuoso." -Bluegrass Unlimited
In 2006, Karen was inducted into the Autoharp Hall of Fame, joining luminaries like the Carter Family, Mike Seeger and Bryan Bowers. Twenty years before this, Karen won the 1986 International Autoharp Championship in Winfield, Kansas, and remains the youngest player awarded either honor.
Karen is also seen frequently in the Twin Cities performing with Katie McMahon, original lead singer of Riverdance, and the pan-Celtic band Piper's Crow, named "Best Acoustic Performer" by City Pages in 2007. Besides autoharp and mountain dulcimer, she plays guitar, mandolin and Irish bouzouki. Don't miss this rare Twin Cities solo concert! It's sure to be a special evening of celebration.
