InfluencesInspired in equal parts by heavy sounds of the 70's
(Mountain, Pentagram, Captain Beyond, early Judas Priest),
progressive rock (King Crimson, Rush),
and 20th century classical (Bela Bartok, Arvo Part, Carl Ruggles and many others).
Sounds LikeZEBULON PIKE combines the impact of metal with the considered approach of "art" music. The result is a rather refined, muted aggression necessary for inciting the slow motion apocalypse.

The music is an intriguing mixture of melodic melancholy, old-school guitar-isms, and Wagnerian dynamics.

   About Zebulon Pike
Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, ZEBULON PIKE is an instrumental prog-doom metal band formed in late 2002. Inspired in equal parts by heavy sounds of the 70's (Mountain, Pentagram, Captain Beyond, early Judas Priest), progressive rock (King Crimson, Rush), and 20th century classical (Bela Bartok, Arvo Part, and many others).

ZEBULON PIKE appeared at the "Best New Bands of 2003" showcase at Minneapolis' famed First Avenue nightclub in early 2004. The band was also named "Best New Band of 2004" by the twin cities news and arts weekly "City Pages" in April 2004.

"Heavy instrumental four-piece ZEBULON PIKE make expansive music for a compressed world. Alternately brutal and tender, their serious but not humorless music punches you in the face and gives you a soothing, nonsexual neck massage. Recommended for fans of Metallica, Yes, Richard Wagner, down-tuned guitars, cannonlike kick drums, and oceanic tempests suggestive of divine retribution."
- City Pages (Minneapolis news and arts weekly)

"Best Hard Rock Group" and "Best Hard Rock Recording" was awarded to ZEBULON PIKE at the 2004 Minnesota Music Awards.

ZEBULON PIKE released their debut full-length album "And Blood Was Passion" in June 2004, followed by a successful appearance at the 2004 "Emissions from the Monolith" festival near Youngstown, Ohio.

ZEBULON PIKE once again had the honor of being awarded "Best Hard Rock Group" at the 2006 Minnesota Music Awards.

ZEBULON PIKE released their follow-up full-length album, "Zebulon Pike II : The Deafening Twilight" in June of 2006. Even darker and more progressive than it's predecessor, the album fuses elements of avant-garde composition, free improvisation, and doomy heavy metal. In keeping with the tradition of epic compositions, "Zebulon Pike II : The Deafening Twilight" features two 13+ minute and two 20+ minute tracks.

ZEBULON PIKE has recently released their third studio album, "Intransience" which picks up where ZP II left off. It encompasses a wide array of both new and classic feels, movements, and styles, all within 3 tracks which ebb and flow over a 40+ minute journey.

ZEBULON PIKE regularly shares the stage with contemporary genre-mates like Orthrelm, Zombi, Juicifer, Pelican, The Sword, Boris, High On Fire, YOB, Hammers of Misfortune, as well as time-tested veterans like Debris Inc., Blue Cheer, and The Hidden Hand. Keep an eye out for more tour dates throughout the rest of 2008 and 2009.

ZEBULON PIKE's music is an intriguing mixture of melodic melancholy, old-school guitar-isms, and Wagnerian dynamics that marks a mighty presence in the world of heavy music.

Awesome CD release last weekend. The new album's great, Tom fits like a glove...good shit all around. You guys somehow managed to simultaneously reinforce your core sound AND chart some new territory. That's a tough trick. Nice to have you back.
