The United States based Somali Family Services here after referred to as “SFS” is a non-profit organization headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota with in-country presence in Puntland and South Central Somalia including a newly established Regional office in Nairobi, Kenya that coordinates the Somali Family Services International Program (IP). SFS through local and international partnerships, we support Somali capacity building initiatives in Democratic Governance and sustainable livelihoods and promotion of interaction and exchange of knowledge, ideas and resources. This initiative is intended to enhance and support civil society organizations, government institutions, educational institutions, health institutions, and humanitarian efforts in Somalia. SFS was established in 2003 to serve Somali immigrants, their families and descendants in Minnesota and to improve the overall quality of life for Somali populations. |

On Wednesday, June 11, members of the 2008 UN delegation led by the UN Resident and humanitarian Coordinator, Mark Bondgan, Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, Deputy Director, UNDP Bureau for Arab States, Bruno Lemarquis, the UNDP Somalia Country Director, Abdul Aziz, UNDP Garowe, and Timothly dewuduwa, UNDP Security Advisor visited Puntland Library and Resource Center.

Somalia background and our history |

Somalia, situated in the Horn of Africa, lies along the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. It is bounded by Djibouti in the northwest, Ethiopia in the west, and Kenya in the southwest. In area it is slightly smaller than Texas. Generally arid and barren, Somalia has two chief rivers, the Shebelle and the Juba. |
