Who's coming to The Cedar? There's an app for that!

Cedar iPhone appWith no irony intended, to launch the new Cedar App on an iPhone (or iPod Touch), one touches a photo of the venue's recently restored 1948 "Cedar" neon marquee. From there, the user is able to see a complete list of upcoming shows, listen to a monthly "newsletter podcast," watch videos both of upcoming artists as well as some special, captured performances from the venue's long history from YouTube, map directions and even buy tickets. The Cedar is the first Twin Cities venue with its own iPhone App, now available for download for free on Apple's iTunes Store.
"The iPhone app is a natural extension of The Cedar's efforts to reach a wider audience, and our use of technology to better inform the public about our programming," says Executive Director Rob Simonds. "Describing music with words and pictures has obvious limitations; enabling people to hear music clips and see videos of upcoming performers more easily is the best way to convey what they do."
2009 was The Cedar's biggest and most successful in its 21-year history. Besides the iPhone App, patrons can follow The Cedar's schedule through its award-winning website at thecedar.org, sign up for the weekly email newsletter, or Facebook and Twitter feeds. There's a staff music blog as well as an actual monthly paper newsletter, still mailed to 10,000 people each month. And of course, you can always just call 612-338-2674 for the week's concert listings from any kind of phone, with or without an "i."
