Cedar iPhone appWho's coming to The Cedar? There's an app for that!
With no irony intended, to launch the new Cedar App on an iPhone (or iPod Touch), one touches a photo of the venue's recently restored 1948 "Cedar" neon marquee. From there, the user is able to see a complete list of upcoming shows, listen to a monthly "newsletter podcast," watch videos both of upcoming artists as well as some special, captured performances from the venue's long history from YouTube, map directions and even buy tickets. The Cedar is the first Twin Cities venue with its own iPhone App, now available to download for free on Apple's iTunes Store.

This week's shows
CANCELLED: The Cedar advises that Burkina Electric (Thu. 2/11/10) has cancelled their February tour, including their Cedar show. Ticketholders are referred to the Cedar's Ticket Refund Policy

Contemporary Irish-American group Solas (8pm Fri Feb 12) have been around in various incarnations since 1994, yet they always seem to keep the music fresh, in part no doubt from the new talent that has joined in along the way (most recently, knockout singer Mairéad Phelan). The current line-up is on fire--check out their new CD The Turning Tide when it is officially released next Tuesday (hopefully they'll have advance copies at the show). Inspired covers of songs by Bruce Springsteen, Richard Thompson and Josh Ritter co-exist seamlessly alongside traditional and original tunes. And while you are at the show, pick up tickets for Altan's big 25th anniversary show at The Cedar (Mar 28).
Sponsored by 90.3 and 106.7 KFAI.

Apparently Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles are in Big Trouble; Celebrating, Like, 100 Years of Romantic Comedy (8pm Sat Feb 13). According to Lucy and co,  "it’ll be a perfect night for awkward silences followed by passionate kisses, all set to the music of Otis Redding, The Faces, Paul Westerberg, OMD, PM Dawn, and many others." Expect a large, enthusiastic crowd for this one. Partial seating available. Sponsored by 89.3 The Current and vita.mn

Come Sunday night (7.30pm Sun 14, Valentine's Day), what better way to mark the occasion than by settling in with a glass of bubbly for a cosy evening of flamenco from Juanito Pascual, whose nimble talents on the guitar will be nicely matched by renowned dancer La Conja, described as "a mesmerizing singer and demon dancer".
Sponsored by Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theater and by 90.3 and 106.7 KFAI.
