09/28/2008 - 8:00pm

Hoven DrovenHoven DrovenHurdy GurdyHurdy GurdyHoven Droven is a Swedish folk rock band founded in 1989. They specialize in instrumental, hard rock arrangements of old Swedish folk tunes. The closest English translation of "Hoven Droven" is "helter skelter" or "whatever."

Their 2005 album "Jumping at the Cedar" was nominated for a 2007 Swedish Grammy award in the folk music category.

Hurdy Gurdy: Exclusively using sounds generated from hurdy gurdys, Stefan Brisland-Ferner of Garmarna and Totte Mattsson of Hedningarna play, process, sample, and tweak both traditional and original tunes in innovative and provocative ways. Their music demonstrates the range and power of this ancient instrument, which has been dubbed a “medieval synthesizer.”
