W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration) consists of some of the most accomplished and legendary musicians in today’s American music scene.

The Books

The Books are an American music duo, formed in New York City in 1999, consisting of guitarist and vocalist Nick Zammuto and cellist Paul de Jong. Their releases contain a combination of electronic music and folk, typically incorporating samples of obscure sounds and speech. They have released three critically-acclaimed albums on the German label Tomlab, and are currently preparing for the release of their latest studio album, The Way Out.

The Decemberists

The Decemberists are a five-piece / band that formed in 2000 in Portland, Oregon, United States. The band currently consists of Colin Meloy (vocals, guitar), Chris Funk (guitar, mandolin, dulcimer, pedal steel), Jenny Conlee (organ, piano, accordion), Nate Query (electric/acoustic bass, cello) and John Moen (drums). Among the band's most notable former members are Rachel Blumberg (drums, vocals) and Jesse Emerson (bass).

Mountain Heart

Mountain Heart is the band that has been fearlessly revolutionizing the way acoustic music can be presented and played. The band's name has been synonymous with cutting-edge excellence in acoustic music circles since the group's creation in 1999. Widely known throughout the music industry for continually redefining the boundaries of acoustic music, the band has gained legions of loyal fans both as a result of their superlative musicianship, and more notably, their incomparably exciting live performances.

Roma di Luna

Roma di Luna

Roma di Luna is a 6-piece soulful folk-rock band from Minneapolis, led by Alexei and Channy Moon Casselle. They have emerged quickly as one of The Twin Cities’ most dynamic and exciting bands, known for powerful live performances and songs that deeply move. Last year, they celebrated the release of their 3rd full-length record, Then The Morning Came, named “...the most anticipated local release of the fall” (Mpls Star Tribune Sept 2010).

“...hushed, strummy tunes that recall Cat Power.” - Rolling Stone Oct 6, 2010

“Roma’s cathartic sunrise is achieved courtesy of Channy Moon Casselle’s effortlessly beautiful vocals...as well as a backing band that sounds more fleshed out than ever before.” (Reviler, Sep 16, 2010)

Bunny Clogs

Bunnyclogs

What is or are Bunny Clogs? Beatrix Potter hopped up on Goofers? Captain Kangaroo singing Run DMC's"License to ILL?" A threeway train wreck between Kraftwerk, the Beastie Boys and Harry Nilsson? A toilet paper party with Henry Kissinger in a bad Philidelphia neighborhood? Randy Newman and Dr. Seuss hijacking a Parliament Funkadelic show? The Beatles on a solid macaroni and cheese diet? Perhaps all of the above.

Bunny Clogs is Shel Silverstein-meets-Prince surreal dance fun. The debut record, "More! More! More!" is not your run-of-the-mill strummy, folky kids' record. Part comedy record with weird characters, part dance party with all of the attendent drum loops and house and hip-hop accoutrements, and part subtle message of peace, love and positive gastronomy, Adam Levy's Bunny Clogs is music for kids of ALL ages.

The Honeydogs

Adam Levy of The Honeydogs

The Honeydogs play indie/rock-music. Some of their songs have a touch of country in them.

The last thing The Honeydogs' lead singer songwriter, Adam Levy, wants his band to be is a Sunshine Committee. You know, the cloying co-workers who attempt to bring a little Trojan Horse happiness to the dysfunctional corporation on the eve of mass layoffs with flowers, pizza, ribbons, lace, and cupcakes? No, the Honeydogs have chosen a tough path, singing about serious subject matter always avoiding the maudlin and producing some music of great emotional intensity, complexity and beauty.

Romantica

Romantica

Penned by an immigrant Irishman, it may appear the only thing "America" about Romantica's hit record is the soil on which Ben Kyle is singing. But the references to Ireland are placed firmly in the rich musical traditions of American country and folk music. America is a journey across "the pond" and across the country. It contemplates life, love and death, portraying the classic elements of life in charming retrospection.

Kyle's lush and airy vocals set the tone for this atmospheric record, which is at times breezy, at others haunting. Painted by the swirling pedal steel guitar of Eric Heywood (Son Volt, Richard Buckner, Ray LaMontagne) and the emotive fiddling of Jessy Greene (Wilco, Jayhawks, Minus 5), it becomes clear why Spin's Melissa Maerz called Romantica's sound "Americana (that's) something more than the sound of the states."

Dosh

Dosh grew up in the Twin Cities. At a young age he also took piano lessons and then discovered FM radio in the early '80s. Dosh began drumming at age 15. By the time he left home for Simon's Rock College at age 16, he had decided music would likely be his profession, however, he subsequently got a degree in creative writing.

Pieta Brown

Pieta Brown's own blend of folk, rock, country and blues has garnered numerous comparisons to musical forbearers like Rickie Lee Jones, Bobbie Gentry, and Bob Dylan. Lyrically and musically poetic, Brown's deceptive simplicity and seductive purity combine to create songs that meet somewhere between the Carter Family and Tom Waits. Pieta's purity goes deep into the heart, summoning up feelings of safety and longing, both at the same time.
